Astrakhan CossacksThe Astrakhan Cossack Host was formed in 1750 from the remains of the Volga Host. The Astrakhan stanitsas were spread along the right bank of the Volga river. By the beginning of XX century there were about 30,000 of Astrakhan Cossacks. In case of war the Host, together with the Kalmyks, provided 3 cavalry regiments for the Russian army. |
