Welcome !
I was born in Russia. I
lived in Northern Caucasus, the area known as Kuban, in Moscow, and spend almost two
years in Belorussia during my military service. As a result, there are three places in
Former USSR where I feel myself at home.
After the army I
studied film-making at All-Soviet Institute of Cinematography, known among Russians as VGIK.
After VGIK I worked at the MOSFILM STUDIOS...
It happened so that I changed my occupation pretty dramatically. After doing
all kinds of stuff eventually I went to the graduate school (MBA) at Georgia Tech and ended up with concentration in Management of the Information Systems.
And now, I am working with Information Systems, which is as far from film-making as it can
be...
Hobbies!!!
Music
Classical (Bach and Glinka are my favorite composers), Rock, Celtic music (mostly Irish
and Scottish), Russian folk music (particularly Cossack
songs, may be because I'm of Cossack blood), Byzantine vocal music, traditional
music of China, Tibet, Native Americans, African Pygmies, Australian aborigines - in a
word, I like authentic music, and the older it is - the better.
Martial Arts I studied a
few Kung-Fu stiles (most of that time I dedicated to Shaolin Chuan' , but tried
quite a few). Then I switched to Thai Boxing,
which looks quite different and very brutal externally, but it's all about the same... And
of course I highly respect all other martial arts and see them as different paths of The
Way Of The Warrior
Cultural Anthropology
Ethnology - this
methodology was created by Lev Gumilev, whose ideas
changed my view of History, Anthropology, Geography and Ethnography.
Mythology, Epic Literature (e.g.,
Germanic/Scandinavian/Icelandic Edda, Finnish/Karelian Kalevala, Irish
Cuchullin cycle, French The song of Roland , Russian The Song of Igor’s Campaign, etc.)
History, particularly
medieval.
American Indian Culture
Warrior subcultures (Celts,
Russian Cossacks, Vikings, American Indians,
Early Mongols, Zulu etc.)
Linguistics I have a great
interest to the history of languages, particularly Indo-European.
Hiking/Backpacking My most
memorable trips were in Kyrgyzstan (Tien-Shen Mountains), Northern Caucasus, Northern Russia, Eastern Prussia. But I also like to travel
without backpacks/tents and enjoy staying in hotels/houses.
Many, many other things...
